A shooting in a Los Angeles college where two teenagers were injured on Thursday is now being considered accidental because the bullets were unintentionally shot from the semi-automatic pistol that was in a girl’s backpack, authorities said Friday.
The 12-year-old girl whose identity was not revealed and who was arrested at the scene was prosecuted Friday for bringing a firearm into the Salvador Castro College, where she accidentally discrarged the gun, injuring two 15-year-old students.
She was formally charged with possession of a weapon and bringing a weapon to the school where it is prohibited.
The two injured teenagers were hospitalized, a boy seriously injured and a girl less seriously affected. Both should recover from their injuries according to the authorities.
Firearms kill more than 30,000 people in the United States each year.
