Richard Liu was born in an average family in China in a village known as Chang’an, and he grew up in a village setting in a town known as Suqian in the expansive Jiangsu province. Richard grew up in a village that lacked what can get considered as fundamental human rights, such as clean piped water to drink and electricity supply. It is surprising to note that Richard was born in a family that was previously considered wealthy.
The family had been in business since 1900 when they invested in the river merchant trade as they assisted transporters to cross their luggage’s across the massive Yangtze River. Unfortunately, when Richard was born, the situation had changed, and his family had lost their fortune, and they had turned to peasant rice farming to sustain their livelihood.
His maternal grandmother brought up Richard as his parents attended rice farms as a source of livelihood. His grandmother is the source of most of the skills and things that Richard Liu has today. He used to assist his grandmother in performing some home chores such as cooking and cleaning the household. Some of the meals that his grandmother taught Richard to include cooking sweet potatoes and corn. Up to this day, Richard developed an interest in cooking, a passion he holds dearly.
His grandmother used to allow Richard to accompany her to the farmers’ cooperative, and he used to witness her negotiate for lower prices at the market. Such negotiations skills formed the business foundations which Richard possesses to this day. Refer to this page for additional information.
