The Successful Entrepreneur: Haroldo Jacobovicz

Haroldo Jacobovicz was born in São Paulo, Brazil in a family of architects. He began his career as a Project Engineer at Cidadela, a consultancy firm specializing in the process of architectural and urban development. He subsequently joined IBM and held various executive positions in the Research and Development division, ending as director of R&D, Organization and Technology in Sao Paulo.

In 2007, Jacobovicz co-founded Horizons Telecom with engineer Franklin Rodriguez, where they developed a business plan to transform the Brazilian market with Internet.

Haroldo, with great potential, started his journey with small and medium-sized projects for which he received traditional banking credit from the Brazilian Financial Institutions. His motivation and dream was to open his own venture, which would allow him to exercise complete control over the project. It is a path which led him to make investments in the IT and telecommunications sectors in Brazil.

He achieved this goal when in the early 1990s, he established TeleRamp, one of the biggest information technology companies in the country and one of the most prestigious in Latin America. It was the first telecommunication company in Latin America to introduce 3G technology.

Haroldo Jacobovicz Achievements

  • Powering the second largest ISP in Brazil for 5 years with over 6 thousand dedicated servers and serving a community of over 250 thousand users.
  • The first company to connect all utilities of São Paulo State via fiber optic cable.
  • The first company to connect the Energy Storage Centre of São Paulo State to the power grid.
  • Installed in the first capital city of São Paulo the largest fiber optic network in South America.
  • Integrated all the state universities of São Paulo State with Internet in 9 years.
  • Owned and managed the state carrier LATAM Airlines Flight 610 landing in Guarulhos airport.
  • Participated in the development of WebEx in 1989.

Haroldo Jacobovicz believes that Brazil is undergoing a historic transformation. He plans to take this process to the forefront by investing in information technology in Brazil. He sees tremendous opportunities in this area and plans to invest in new infrastructure projects and help put his country in a better position in this regard.
